Matthew 8:23: And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.

24: And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. 25: And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 26: And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. 27: But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

How easy is it to rattle you?  That is a stiff question.  Each of us has a level at which life will rattle our composure.  For Jesus there appeared to be none.  He approaches situations as if He owns the world. He does.  Remember that He is on your side.  What is His is ours.  If He doesn't get rattled by a tornado, a typhoon, a hurricane, a sea storm, or any disease or devil or person, then neither should we.  Be changed by staying around Him.

Life has been challenging over the last decade.  It seems that every year becomes more intense than the prior one.  The years are not long.  The years are not wrong.  They are just full.  Greatness touches every day.  That can get old.  Blessing touches every moment.  That can get emotional.  Jesus learned to rest easy in the midst of the struggle of life.

At the home of a friend, I was impressed at his calm in the middle of many children.  They were happy, rambunctious and just being kids.  Nonetheless, that constant noise and press can make your nerves come loose.  He handled it well.  The joy of seeing someone doing what they love to do even in the middle of the press is wonderful.

ACT!  Unravel your last rattle.  Ponder what rattled you last.  Maybe in the last few minutes or hours or days.  Is it still around?  Was it worth it?

PRAY!  Father of comfort and all rest.  Unravel my rattles.  Let me have the testimony of great faith in You.  Let me have the witness among men that greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.  Encourage confidence in me to face the gravest threat with a simple, "Yes, Lord, this too shall pass."  Help me to boldly stand in my place in You in all storms of life.
